The Vaudoise aréna in Prilly-Malley was designed by Lausanne-based Pont12 Architectes following an architectural competition won in 2015. Conceived as a major multisports complex, its distinctive L-shaped plan — reminiscent of a hockey stick — creates a generous public forecourt while efficiently organizing the different sporting facilities.
The building brings together ice rinks, an Olympic aquatic centre, fencing and table tennis facilities within a single architectural structure. Its rounded geometry echoes the shape of the ice rink, while the immaculate glass façade gives the complex a strong and recognizable urban identity.
Designed around principles of flexibility and energy efficiency, the complex also recovers heat generated by the ice-production systems to help heat the swimming pools, linking its contrasting programmes through both architecture and technology.
